Greetings all who wrestle for the Kingdom.

Before or After?

A few weeks ago I shared a short teaching at the “W” related to faith.  It was asking the question ‘when does faith occur, before or after you see a result?’  We looked at I Cor. 10:6-12 and the five things that God disliked about the children of Israel while they were in the desert.  These are;

1.)    Craving evil things

2.)    Idolaters

3.)    Acting Immorally

4.)    Trying the Lord

5.)    Grumbling

The ‘evil things’ that the people craved were actually some pretty basic items; food, water, life itself.  So why was God upset with them in their strong desire to survive in circumstances that appeared to be insoluble?  Because they really did not trust Him.  They had seen the miracles in Egypt and during the crossing of the Red Sea and yet when new problems rose they did not trust that He would take care of them again.  Why?

They never had faith, or trust, in God during the previous tough places and Moses did.

Ps 106:6-15 helps unpack this a little more.  Read verses 11 and 12 you see that they only believed after they saw the entire Egyptian army engulfed by the waters.

After.

Verse 13 says “…but they quickly forgot”.  How could you forget this massive move of God?  They did not forget that it happened as a fact.  However, they did not have a base of trust prior to the last situation so when a new difficulty rose they still did not trust God.  They forgot to believe.  To believe that God is not only able to come through, but that He has been and is faithful.  That we can trust Him once again, even when we do not see how it can possibly be resolved without a miracle.

Faith happens before you see, not after.

May God grant us all spiritual eyes to see and hearts to believe and trust Him in situations we do not understand, or see the way out of.

Here are some testimonies of God’s faithful response to trust filled prayers over the past few weeks;

REPORTS:

• A woman who is part of the Wider Wrestling Team wrote us an email;

Jesus is awesome! Last night the bones in a woman's foot moved in alignment with the Word of God as we prayed for her. Thank you, Jesus :)

                What a mighty God we serve.

• A man came for prayer regarding his back.  He has three degenerated disks and was in constant pain.  He reported back that since we prayed it is tender but the pain is gone.  God, You are the best.

• A woman who comes to the “W” once and a while wrote this on her Facebook page (she gave assent when we bumped into each other at a restaurant last week);

…  My twelve year old daughter sits, after attending a prayer conference the day prior, telling me that she thinks she will pray more - that prayer makes a difference. "And mom, did you know that some people told stories of prayer actually healing people?" Did I know? Yes, I did. "And mom, I think I should pray more for other people, I guess I'm just really realizing it makes a difference." Her words burned in my heart because of their truth and because she did not learn them from me.

"Tell her, (the writers name spoken here). Tell her your story".

"No, Lord, please." I beg.

"It is time, she can hear it. There will not be a better time"

"(Daughter’s name), I have a story to tell you". I say, with fear tugging at the back of my mind. What will she think? Mothers should be invincible, nearly perfect, strong. Will my admitted weakness shake her view of me?

"She may see you as human, but she will see me as God."

"Yes, Father, I will tell her."

So the story comes out - my story of depression. No wrenching details of sleepless nights, endless searching or fights of will and lack of desire.  Just simple facts. Ten years of medication. Ended by prayer. Ended by the Healer who chose to act in response to the prayer of one believing man. I search her eyes as I speak, my sentences halting in my flailing attempt to not do what I am doing.

"Wow, mom, that is really cool." She says. I believe she means it.

                Cool indeed.

• A family was down to its last $.87 and as they left the “W” found $50.00 in the wife’s purse.  They had not mentioned their situation to anyone but had put the request in the “box” for prayer.  Father, You are above and beyond our expectations.

• A woman who was fighting depression reported back that the cloud has lifted and the depression has not returned.  Yes.

• A woman has had a severe addiction for 30 years and she wanted freedom.  She came to the “W” and two people who had been freed of addictions (one two years ago and one in the past month) prayed for her.  As they prayed she said she felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders and she felt clean.  We bless you cleansing Lord.

• A person who was named in a huge lawsuit had asked for prayer and ‘out of the blue’ the suit was dropped.  Father, You still move in our lives in response to prayer.

• An intercessor that is a part of the WT was having harsh sinus pain.  She was prayed for and the pain dissipated within a few minutes.Thank you Father.

• A man who was prayed for at the “W” gave the testimony that three times in the past year he was prompted to have ‘unusual’ physical things checked out by his doctor.  Each time it caught ailments that were dealt with early and without any problem.  Each ailment could have been severe to life threatening if not caught early.  What an awesome God.

• A family was down to the last few dollars and a bill came up that needed to be paid that day.  They prayed and when the mail came it included a statement from the Credit Union for a personal account.  It was an account that had been set up months before to meet a requirement of the CU and they had put $300.00 in it to start it up.  They drove to the CU and withdrew the money needed for the day.  God uses even a memory lapses to glorify Himself.

• A woman asked for prayer at the “W” for a relative who was going in for prostrate surgery.  She reported back that the doctors got it all, there was no cancer and the doctors commented that the procedure went “amazingly well”.  Wow, God You do “amazingly well” indeed and demonstrate a great love for Your children.

• A woman was having back spasms and was in a great deal of pain.  Her husband laid hands on her and prayed and as he prayed the pain left.  Amen to effective prayers.

• A woman prayed for a vacation since she had not had one in years and could not afford one.  Within a short period of time she obtained a frequent flyer ticket from a friend, had a place to stay for free and met someone with a car at the same place and got an extra day of work that picked up the cost of the incidental costs.  We serve an awesome God who even cares about vacations.

• A person was prayed for in proxy at the “W” who had tumors throughout the bowels and back.  We prayed that they would not be cancerous and they are not.  Now we are praying that they go away.  We trust you Father to act based on Your Word.

• A young man in Kenya was prayed for to find a job and for an illness his daughter was fighting.  He found work within a week and the daughter became well.  There is not time or space with you God.  Our prayers here impact the other side of the world when You are the one moving.

• A story came in from a mother who was prayed for at the “W”.  Her daughter asked for prayer because her car had died and she could not afford a replacement.  The day after we prayed the mother went to a funeral and the person who died had a car that nobody in the family needed so they gave it to her.  Father, You provide today.

• A woman lost the ability to see in the middle portion of her field of vision.  She called asking for prayer.  Within a short time her vision went back to normal.  Father, miracles are normal for You.

“We are not our own: in so far as we can, let us therefore forget ourselves and all that is ours.  Conversely we are God’s: let us therefore live for him and die for him.  We are God’s: let all the parts of our life accordingly strive toward him as our lawful goal.”  Institutes of the Christian Religion, John Calvin quoted from The Evangelical Renaissance by Donald Bloesch

“The work of the Holy Spirit brings man into conformity with Christ in the life of holiness.  It is the Holy Spirit who effects regeneration and sanctification, inward cleansing and separation from sin.  Man is made holy not by ascetic or mystical feats but by continual surrender to the Spirit of Christ in faith.”  The Evangelical Renaissance, Donald Bloesch
